Here’s the pirate swabbie that I created for the Poop Deck Project. He will be printed as a playing card and will be part of a deck of cards which you can purchase here. See more info at: http://www.poopdeckproject.co.uk/

I was asked to take part in an exhibition run by Ammo Magazine and Inkygoodness called ‘The Poop Deck Project’ which will be launching tomorrow evening from 6-9pm at the Coningsby Gallery in London (see details above). I will be showcasing two illustrations along with 54 other international Artists & Illustrators. It’s been an enjoyable few weeks designing the nautical/maritime themed playing cards and I can’t wait to see how it’s turned out. I shall be posting snaps of the exhibition along with artwork soon, so for now here are some links to browse:-

A proud Illustration moment! Well today was a good day as I got to feature on the magnificent Computer Arts blog as Image of the day. I was asked by Gary Evans (Staff writer at Computer Arts) to showcase my Frenchman vs Stag piece which I created a few months back for a cycling publication. He really liked my stuff and decided this would be a fitting image for the website. You can read all about it here!

I’ve always been a great fan of Computer Arts and have bought numerous amounts of issues, it’s a great source of inspiration for all like minded creatives and has some insightful tutorials that I’ve found very helpful. It’s nice to be recognised on such a well-known site and hopefully it will give me some well needed exsposure.

On Monday I won this competition - http://www.stackmagazines.com/blog/attention/ which I was stoked about! The competition was judged by Andrew and Philip from The Ride Journal. They picked out my orange fixie and said the following…
“We loved the clean linework and the simple vintage styling. We wanted to ride it. (although we’d swap the pedals out for some clipless!)”
I managed to win some nifty prizes including the current issue of The Ride Journal, a set of Knog lights, a smart t-shirt from Morvelo, plus a six-month subscription to Stack…not bad for just a drawing that took 2 hours. I still hope to develop the bike further and possibly sell it as a print.

I done this sketch a while ago using Manga Studio 5 which I’ve always been interested in using…and I have got to admit I’m hooked. I prefer the user interface to Photoshop, as it’s much simpler to use, has everything at a fingers touch away and gives cleaner lines when inking. It also has a handy rotate paper option, which helps me a lot with line work as I am a lefty and draw quite awkwardly.

I’ve been working flat out the last two nights to finish this piece off. Pretty pleased with the outcome, would love to know what you think..

My first real attempt at digital inking. (Frenden brush set has been wonderful to play with and I definitely recommend buying them) These won’t be the final colours, I just randomly chose this particular colour to distinguish the shadows, but It seems to work and am quite tempted to leave it like this..

Casquette is French for “cap”. In cycling Jargon…if you wanted to know.

Another cyclist fashioning a casquette, hopefully have the final done soon.
